Gujarat government undecided on opening Classes 1 to 5 at schools


The rising number of Covid cases has put the state government in a dilemma regarding re-opening of schools for Class 1 to Class 5. 

"The education department was considering in-person education for students from Classes 1 to 5 from November 21. However, this seems unlikely looking at the current situation,"said state government sources.

Students of this age group have not attended physical classrooms for over 600 days now. The state government has formed a 11-member committee to give their recommendations regarding re-opening of pre-primary classes and how to minimize the learning gap that might have been created due to online learning for a long duration of time.

The committee's role is limited to suggesting ways to overcome learning loss. It cannot recommend the date for re-opening classes, sources said. A final decision on when to re-open classes will be taken by the state education department in consultation with the
